Write to Mark Butler today.
By 9th August, Environment Minister Mark Butler must decide on whether to allow the dredging and dumping of 3 million cubic metres of seabed at Abbot Point, near Bowen.
Approval will send the Great Barrier Reef further down the path towards an ‘in-danger’ listing at the next World Heritage Committee meeting.
Mark Butler has the power to stop the destruction, he can reject the Abbot Point dredging proposal.
Now is the time to tell him: the Abbot Point dredging proposal must be dumped.
If approved, this dredging clears the way for the development of the world’s largest coal port at Abbot Point, less than 50km from the Whitsunday Islands.
It locks in damage to coral and marine life, threatens tourism, makes three new terminals more likely and creates a shipping superhighway along the Reef.
It’s a critical decision.
Send Mark Butler an email today urging him to reject this controversial dredging and dumping plan.
